Perfect Mum Syndrome (The new ‘PMS’)

Perfect Parent or Perfect Mum Syndrome – are you familiar with this term? I wasn’t until I was approached to help with an article for ‘Woman Magazine‘ and my perceptions on the pressures of being a working Mum and the unrealistic expectations that come with it. In the back of my mind I guess I had always felt this way but didn’t have a description for it as such. I think its safe to say lots of Mum’s, maybe even Dads, have felt like this too. So ‘The new PMS’ seemed like a great idea for not only other parents to read but also to relate to.

Not many people realise, especially my cake customers (why would they) that I actually do have a busy life outside of running Cuppies ‘n’ Cream. I work full time and I’m a Mum too.  It’s also pretty fair to say that I do absolutely, hand on heart, love it. I’m a busy person, I have never been able sit still for long (unless it’s on a beach with a cocktail in my hand of course) so I love having the pressure of everything happening and being super busy. Obviously out of all these responsibilities the most important one is being a Mum to Coby. If he is happy, then that makes me happy.

Does being a perfect parent even exist?

I don’t know about you, but I’ve always wondered who has the right to say what being a perfect parent is anyway? Surely people have come to realise that whilst one thing works for one person, it doesn’t another. And seeing all these celebrities having what appears to be the perfectly turned out child on one arm, with the latest designer handbag on the other, just isn’t right is it?

We don’t really know what goes on behind the scenes, how many nannies they have to help out, or even what sometimes seems to be an endless amount of cash?! It is very superficial. Do they even know what the school run is? 😉  I guess, and I really do believe this, raising a child is a wonderful experience and we should really just enjoy it all no matter what goes on around us, or what perceptions we have of other people. At the end of the day I believe all children just need love, time and your attention.

The full article is available in the 30 June 2014 issue (out now) but here are a couple of snapshots 🙂
